Thunder waives Rob Edwards

The Oklahoma City Thunder have announced that they have waived Rob Edwards.

The guard was a training camp invite, along with D.J. Wilson.

He is the first of more that will most likely get released within the next few days as the Thunder trim their roster down to 15 NBA players and two two-way players.

The Thunder opens their regular season on Oct. 20 against the Utah Jazz.

Edwards went undrafted in 2020 and would subsequently play last season with the Oklahoma City Blue — the Thunder’s G League team.

The 24-year-old played in this past Summer League, where he averaged 11.2 points in five games.

The most likely move now for Edwards is to see if he can find a two-way spot with any other NBA team first before signing back with the Thunder on a G League deal that will let him play for the Blue once again.

Edwards’ game is reminiscent of Troy Daniels, a microwave scorer who can get hot from three but does not have any other way to impact the game.

But at 24 years old and a limited ceiling, it was hard to envision Edwards breaking camp and making the Opening Night roster.
