The Oklahoma City Thunder have officially waived Meyers Leonard, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Shams reported these details on Twitter earlier today.

Leonard was acquired last week in the Trevor Ariza trade to purely make the salaries work. The Thunder quickly came out and made it known in a statement that Leonard would not be an active part of the organization.

Leonard was ruled out for the remainder of the season on Feb. 2 after he underwent shoulder surgery.

The Heat indefinitely suspended Leonard for his use of an anti-semitic slur during a live stream on Twitch.

The NBA investigated the incident and suspended Leonard for a week. He was also fined $50,000.

The Thunder kept Leonard’s $9.4M salary on their books for a week until the trade deadline, in the event that the Thunder were able to trade him to another team. This never materialized as the Thunder’s only move today was the George Hill to Philly trade. With the deadline passing earlier today, Leonard being bought out was only a matter of time.
