Thunder snatches another win from Lakers, 107-104

For the second time this season, the Oklahoma City Thunder rallied for a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Led by 11 points from Shai Gigeous-Alexander in the fourth quarter and nine from Luguentz Dort, the Thunder bounced back from a 19-point deficit and handed Anthony Davis and the Lakers their fourth loss, 107-104 at Staples Center.

Gilgeous-Alexander, who was top-notch once again, led Oklahoma City with 28 points, including a pair of free throws to tie the game 95-95 with 2:09 remaining. Kenrich Williams drilled a three-point dagger on the following possession and the Thunder never looked back.

Williams’ triple spurred a run capped by two free throws from Dort and a missed runner from Russell Westbrook. Dort scored 17 points while Williams chipped in 13.

Oklahoma City (2-6) fell behind early, jumping out to a slow start while also failing to find an answer for Davis, who scored a game-high 29 points in the absence of LeBron James.

Davis scored 14 in the first 12 minutes, almost exclusively in the paint. He also dominated the glass with eight of his game-high 18 boards, including two on the offensive glass. A hand injury suffered near the end of the first half seemed to slow the eight-time All-Star after the break.

The Thunder chipped away at L.A.’s 19-point lead throughout the middle periods, but didn’t turn it on until late - a 35-24 run in the final 12 minutes. The team iced the victory on an inbounds play ending in a Dort flush.

Darius Bazley, who was tasked defensively with Davis early in the game, scored 14 points with five boards. Ty Jerome also scored 14, sparking the second unit along with Williams and Mike Muscala (6).

Derrick Favors added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while rookie Josh Giddey scored five and led all players with eight assists.

Oklahoma City gets a two-day break before hosting the San Antonio Spurs (2-6) Sunday night at Paycom Center.
