Thunder sign Charlie Brown Jr. to 10-day contract

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed Charlie Brown Jr. to a 10-day contract.

This comes on the day that Justin Robinson’s second 10-day deal came to an end. The Thunder had the decision of signing Robinson for the rest of the season or choosing to sign someone else for his 10-day roster spot. Obviously, the Thunder opted for Brown Jr.

Considering that Robinson played a total of 16 minutes during his second 10-day deal, the writing seemed to be on the wall about the 23-year-old’s odds of staying on the roster past today.

Brown Jr. went undrafted in 2019 and played in 10 games for the Atlanta Hawks last season.

Brown Jr. played two seasons at Saint Joseph’s in 2017 and 2019, with 2018 spent as a medical redshirt year after breaking his wrist in preseason practice. In 63 career games, Brown Jr. averaged 16 points and 5.6 rebounds. Brown Jr. was named on the second-team All-Atlantic 10 in 2019.

In 13 games in the G League Bubble, Brown Jr. averaged 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and shot 35.5% from three on nearly five attempts for the Iowa Wolves.

At 24 years old, the Thunder will give another young player a shot to prove themselves during a 10 day run. If Brown Jr. shows a sliver of potential at being a real NBA player, the Thunder will have found another gem and would be able to sign him for beyond this season; if not, the Thunder can move on pretty easily and plug in the next 10-day guy to see if anybody sticks.
