The Oklahoma City Thunder and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have agreed to a five-year, $172 million rookie extension, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.

While Free Agency kicked off at 5 p.m. CT, an agreement could not be announced for rookie extensions with the 2018 class until 11 p.m. CT.
SGA is entering his final season on his rookie contract, making $5.5 million this season. His extension will kick in at the beginning of the 2022-23 season.
At just 23 years old, SGA has blossomed into one of the league’s premier young guards since being drafted 11th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft.
In 35 games last season, SGA averaged 23.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists on 62.3 TS%. SGA was limited to just 35 games due to dealing with plantar fasciitis that caused him to miss the final two months of the season
SGA was acquired from the LA Clippers in the 2019 Paul George trade. Each season has seen SGA statistically improve. Despite a higher usage and scoring load, SGA continues to be one of the more efficient scoring guards in the league.
The Thunder now have the face of their franchise locked down until 2027.
