Thunder reportedly buys out Krejci’s deal with Spanish club

According to Eurohoops, the Oklahoma City Thunder will pay the termination fee of Vit Krejci’s former team, Basket Zaragoza.

The 21-year-old was drafted 37th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, with his rights subsequently traded to the Thunder. Krejci tore his ACL last September and was in Oklahoma City late last season rehabbing the injury.

There have been conflicting reports on Krejci’s status for next season in the midst of this news.

Eurohoops reported that the plan is for Krejci to start next season in the G League with the OKC Blue.

Daily Thunder’s Brandon Rahbar reports that cap expert Jon Hamm and Nick Collison’s agent, Pensack Sport, say that teams can’t buy out contracts to sign someone onto a G League or two-way deal.

Meaning Krejci would need to be guaranteed an NBA roster spot for next season.

Meanwhile, The Oklahoman’s Joe Mussatto reports that Krejci was already on the Blue roster last season but did not attend the G League Bubble as he spent time rehabbing his torn ACL in Oklahoma City.

So it seems like Eurohoops is reporting that Krejci will sign and join the Blue next season, while the local guys in Rahbar, Mussatto, and Hamm suggest that is not possible and have been with the Blue for months already (which is correct).

Either way, it seems like Krejci will play with the Thunder next season one way or another, as he is expected to return to full practice this month.
