The Oklahoma City Thunder have picked up and fully guaranteed the remaining two years of Lu Dort’s contract for the 2021-22 season and 2022-23 season according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Dort signed a four-year extension in June 2020 after being on a two-way deal during the 2019-20 season. The season was paused on March 11 and Dort signed an extension on June 24 before the NBA resumed play in late July.

Dort’s 2021-22 base salary is $1.8M and his 2022-23 base salary is $1.9M.

Dort has grown into being one of the best perimeter defenders in the league in just 80 career NBA games. Dort is averaging 12.4 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 32.9% from three on 5.9 attempts a game this season.

This move was simple as Dort is on one of the best contracts in the league. Lu’s impact on the court far outweighs his salary.

Dort went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft and was signed by the Thunder. Dort will become a UFA at the prime age of 24 during the summer of 2023 if Oklahoma City does not extend him in the next two seasons.
