Late run not enough as Thunder fall 123-120 to Suns

The Oklahoma City Thunder entered tonight’s game against the Phoenix Suns look to snap a two game home losing streak. Coming into the game, Head Coach Mark Daigneault wanted the Thunder to take away the easy shots and force Phoenix to hit the tough ones.

Luguentz Dort and Darius Bazley both came out strong and got Oklahoma City out to an early lead. To start the second quarter, Phoenix went on a 12-0 scoring run to take control of the game.

The Suns would go into halftime with a 64-57 lead. Devin Booker led the way for Phoenix with 16 first half points.

Phoenix would expand their lead after halftime. The Suns would lead by as much as 18 points in the second half.

Despite trailing by so much, the Thunder did not quit. Oklahoma City was able to pull the game within single digits with just over a minute to go.

A overturned foul call on a coach’s challenge by the Suns prevented the deficit being cut to a one possession game.

The Suns would close out the game with free throws and won a narrow game by a final score of 123-120.

This was a high scoring affair from the jump. It was a group effort scoring wise for the Thunder as they had seven different players in double figures. Darius Bazley led Oklahoma City 19 points.

Kudos to this young Thunder team for sticking around and competing with the top seed in the Western Conference.

Although, Oklahoma City lost a close one, Theo Maledon made history tonight by breaking the Thunder rookie record for threes made in a season. Alex Abrines, the Spanish sharpshooter, previously held the record.

Oklahoma City will try to bounce back from a couple tough losses at home against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday.
