Late last night, news broke that the Thunder were planning on signing Gabriel Deck to a contract. Deck, 26, currently plays for Real Madrid and the news certainly came out of the left field.

Real Madrid, coached by Pablo Laso, are currently contending for the EuroLeague title and Deck is one of their key contributors. The news was initially broken by Chema de Lucas, a Spanish basketball reporter.

The report was then confirmed by Emiliano Carchia of Sportando and Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Shams also reported that Darius Miller would be waived to create a roster spot that Gabriel Deck can be signed to a contract with the Thunder.

Details relating to Deck’s contract are scarce but Emiliano Carchia of Sportando reported that a three-year deal is expected.

Gabriel Deck has been a driving force for Real Madrid this season and his play last night against Fenerbahce secured a playoff spot for Los Blancos. Deck scored 19 points and notched 4 assists as Real blew out one of Turkey’s leading basketball teams.

From the film alone, it is clear that Deck has great feel for the game and fits the mould of a Thunder player. Over the last two years, it is clear that Sam Presti has prioritized finding high-IQ guys rather than focusing solely on physical attributes.
